We’re now getting into the higher levels of the July Top 25 Facebook games list.
Games at this point have large numbers of daily active users and often have large changes in their traffic, but may not move much on the list due to their audience size.
Here’s what we’ve looked at so far:
- July 12, 2012: No. 25 (Pyramid Solitaire Saga) through No. 20 (SongPop)
- July 19, 2012: No. 19 (Angry Birds Friends) through No. 13 (The Sims Social)
This week, we’ll look at No. 12 through No. 7.
T11. Bejeweled Blitz
EA PopCap’s Bejweled Blitz is back where it started, at 2.8 million daily active users. The game’s shown several spikes and drops over the month so far, going as high as 2.9 million DAU and as low as 2.5 million. However, Bejeweled Blitz is in the middle of an overall traffic valley, following May’s high point of 3.2 million DAU. The game’s seen similar drops in numbers before, going as low as 2.3 million DAU in June 2010 before spiking up to 4.5 million shortly afterwards. It’s possible Bejeweled Blitz might see another traffic surge like this in the future, but it doesn’t seem likely to happen any time soon. With The Sims Social now ahead of Bejeweled Blitz in terms of traffic, the game will most likely drop a spot next month.
T11. Hidden Chronicles
Zynga’s Hidden Chronicles is still losing traffic, down from 2.8 million DAU to 2.4 million. The game peaked in March with 7.4 million DAU and has been steadily dropping ever since. The numbers are shrinking by approximately 1 million DAU a month, and it seems like this month might continue the trend since traffic was down to 2.3 million DAU just a few days ago. Hidden Chronicles doesn’t look like it’ll fall off the list entirely for a while, but it seems safe to say that the game will be veering towards the bottom of the Top 25 list next month.
T9. Tetris Battle
Tetris Online’s Tetris Battle is another title showing steady drops, down from 3.3 million DAU to 2.5 million this month. The game peaked in April with 4.2 million DAU and has been bleeding users ever since. That said, the game was released in 2010 and began to see significant traffic gains at the start of the year, so it doesn’t seem likely the falling numbers will make the developer start to consider sunsetting the title. Tetris Battle will probably place somewhere around No. 15 on next month’s list, depending where the traffic lands at the end of July.
T9. Diamond Dash
Wooga’s Diamond Dash is up from 3.3 million DAU to 3.8 million. Prior to this, the game was losing traffic after February’s high point of 4.7 million DAU. Exactly what’s causing this renewed surge in traffic isn’t obvious, but wooga has a habit of tweaking its games to make them more fun for users so they’re more likely to spread via viral mechanics. If the game’s traffic continues to climb, though, it’ll likely move up two or three spots on August’s Top 25 list.
8. Candy Crush Saga
King.com’s Candy Crush Saga continues to grow, up from 3.6 million DAU to 4.1 million. The game came out in April and still isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Candy Crush Saga looks poised to move into the top five games on next month’s list, since CityVille held the No.5 spot at the beginning of July with 4 million DAU. That said, it’s unlikely the game will get any higher up on the list for August, based on how many users the games holding the No.1 through the No.4 spots have.
Zynga’s CastleVille is down from 3.8 million DAU to 3.4 million. The game launched in late 2011 and peaked in December with 8.4 million DAU, but users have been gradually leaving ever since. Recent celebrity promotions haven’t done much to offset traffic, either, and the game could fall out of the top ten games on next month’s list if the user numbers continue to decline.
