Bethesda Updates Fallout Shelter With Survival Mode, More

The Vault-building game now offers a higher difficulty level for players who want it.

Bethesda Softworks has announced the latest content update for Fallout Shelter on iOS and Android devices. The popular Vault-building game sees players creating an underground Vault to protect survivors from the Wasteland above ground. This update introduces a new gameplay mode to users, among other improvements.

One of the game’s biggest additions is the new Survival Mode, which is for players who want an extra challenge. In Survival Mode, the game’s basic rules apply, but resources like food and water drain at a faster rate, incidents cause more damage and deceased Dwellers can’t be revived.

Elsewhere, a new statistics page has been added to the Vault Dweller’s Survival Guide menu, allowing users to keep track of their total playing time, average Dweller stats (like Perception or Agility stats, as examples), resource production rates and much more. In addition, players can now gather extra equipment from the Raiders they defeat during invasions, and now have the opportunity to earn extra Caps (the game’s currency) as they tap on a ‘mysterious stranger’ who appears in their Vault.

Finally, iOS players will receive a new ‘legendary’ Dweller: Piper from the upcoming Fallout 4 video game. Gamers on iOS will also receive five free Lunchboxes, which contain prizes like new armor and weapons for their Dwellers, among other prizes.

In addition to these gameplay additions, Fallout Shelter is now available in Russian, and offers cloud storage so users can access their Vault(s) on multiple devices. Plus, existing players can now turn off the tutorial.

Fallout Shelter is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play. The game saw more than 85 million Vaults created in its first month on iOS.
