Independent developers Balloon 27 and MildMania have partnered to release Darklings on iOS, an endless survival game that sees players drawing shapes on the screen to attack enemies. As Lum, the face of light, players must purge all of the darklings to save the world.
In Darklings, enemies are equipped with specific patterns, like spirals or arrows, which must be drawn on the screen to possess and kill them. The game’s 40 creatures are split into three families, each with their own style, while boss battles offer additional challenge, as players must first determine the strategy for defeating these larger enemies.
Players will battle through three environments, including a dark forest, caverns and floating islands, with more settings coming in future updates. As players defeat enemies, they’ll unlock customizations and costumes for Lum, like a monk, crow, wizard or wrestler.
“We are very excited to be working with Balloon 27 on the launch of this title,” said Burkay Ozdemir, co-founder of MildMania, in a statement. “With their wealth of technology knowhow and development experience, paired with their ability to reach several new markets, we believe Darklings will be a worldwide success.”
