Physicians take note. Avvo has released a new social media guide for health care professionals.
At the Third Annual Health Care Social Media Summit held at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, Avvo, a sponsor of the event, released a free guide titled: “Being Influential online: Social Media Tactics for Physicians.” According to the press release: Avvo is the largest expert only medical and legal Q&A resource on the web that empowers consumers with the information and expert advice they need to confidently make the right decisions about their health and legal needs.”
As a sponsor at the summit, Avvo joins a group of presenters that focus on engaging patients and physicians using the Internet and social media. Discussion will cover such topics as the use of social media, mobile communications, security, legal issues, and the ePatient movement.
According to a press release, “The purpose of the social media guide is to provide physicians and health care communicators who market on behalf of physicians, with a time-efficient game plan for establishing an online presence – whether the goal is to attract new patients, expand referral networks or simply manage an online reputation.”
The guide does not solely focus on communication with patients, but also on how to be a physician that is also a business owner. Topics covered in the guide include a social media overview, liability and social media, leveraging SEO to increase online reach, and “15 Steps to Establish Your Core Online Presence”. In other words, the guide is a “how to” for combining small business social media practice with the health profession.
Avvo clearly seeks to attract people to their website with the guide; however, if you’re a physician you may find it a useful tool.
