…notes something that was widely reported: Apple requires all new submitted iPhone apps to be compatible with iPhone OS 3.0. And, then she notes something I missed completely:
…that any application currently in App Store that did not run properly under 3.0 would be removed from the store
My guess is that a good number (thousands) of the 40,000 iPhone apps currently in the App Store may be unmaintained apps (no development after initial release). Assuming that many of these unmaintained apps are not iPhone OS 3.0 compatible, we may see a dramatic iPhone app count after 3.0’s release. Stay tuned.
