Amazon announced today that it is now looking to fill positions for its 4th distribution center in Illinois. Plainfield, Ill., will be getting a second facility as Amazon looks to expand its presence in the state.
“We’re hiring hundreds of people to work at our two new Amazon facilities in Indiana,” said Dave Clark, vice president, Amazon North American Operations. “We’re expanding in Indiana because Governor Daniels and other state officials have demonstrated their commitment to Amazon jobs and investment.”
The Plainfield facility will be approximately 900,000-square-foot in size when it opens in late summer 2011. It will bring Amazon’s total footprint in the state to more than 3 million square feet. Amazon currently has 3 fulfillment centers in Whitestown, Plainfield, and a recently opened a new facility in Indianapolis.
Amazon also has plans for new fulfillment centers in Washington State, South Carolina and Tennessee, and it will also expand an existing fulfillment center in Phoenix, Arizona.
