Yesterday it was out sad duty to report on the death of the legendary Steve Jobs. In the 18 hours since the news was released by Apple, virtually everyone in IT or in journalism has written about what he meant to them and the effect he’d had on their lives.
But the true measure of a man is what his enemies say about him. Amazon is more of a competitor than an enemy, but its response is telling.
Amazon changed its homepage this morning. The change occurred with no fanfare, no commercialism – just a quiet gesture of respect. Six months ago Amazon was likely cursing his name. Today it mourns his passing. That is the measure of the effect Steve had on us.
