Americans evidently prefer silence to the sound of jingling bells—and to accident-prone grandmas. Probing deep into the national psyche, a new Harris Poll asked people to pick the “one holiday song you really look forward to hearing when the holiday season comes around each year.” “Silent Night” was the top vote-getter, with “White Christmas” as runner-up. And which is the one holiday song “you wish you could never hear again?” “Jingle Bells” was the winner in this category, with “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” as runner-up. Well, no accounting for taste.
