Dog shows were prissy and off-putting enough already, but now we find out that lots of the dogs get full-color magazine ads to endear them to judges. Check out Fanhouse’s spread of show-dog ads from The Canine Chronicle, whose 400-page Westminster issue was 75 percent ads. That’s almost as bad as Rolling Stone these days. Plus, these ads, with their flame fonts and awkward photos, could fill a Graphic Design Mistakes 101 course. But in all fairness, the opportunities to say “bitch” in print without fear of reprisal aren’t common these days, so I can see how that might be exciting to some people.
