There are certain Hollywood icons who continue to spectacularly defy age. Stan Lee is one such individual, spotted over the weekend with fans and colleagues at the Chicago Entertainment and Comic Expo (C2E2). Another prodigiously active 94-year-old is Norman Lear, who was involved in every aspect of Netflix’s reboot of One Day at a Time.
Thanks to PodcastOne, there is more Lear on the horizon. Starting May 1, the company will begin releasing weekly Monday episodes of All of the Above With Norman Lear, a new interview program co-hosted with actor Paul Hipp. The first wave of guests includes Amy Poehler and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. From this morning’s announcement:
“Circling 95, I wanted to wait until half my life was over to launch a podcast,” said Lear. “Whatever my age, I think of myself as your peer–whatever your age. Subscribe, and see if you don’t agree.”
We agree. Over the weekend, Politico’s Jack Shafer joked that following the apocalypse, it will be a battle of the podcasts vs. the newsletters. Certainly, it does feel like those two forms of content are each and every day increasing their dominance among the smartphone-earphones and palm-scrolling crowd. With folks like Lear in the mix, it’s also a pre-apocalypse blessing.
A few years ago, Poehler recruited her former high school English teacher to help promote her book Yes Please. Another one of her interviewers on that promotional tour: Lear.
