Public Ad Campaign, a group devoted to reclaiming outdoor surfaces from advertisers via civil disobedience, has created an augmented reality app that digitally scrubs the world's premier advertising neighborhood, Times Square, clean of marketing pitches. As seen in the video below, the app virtually replaces outdoor ads with artworks by street artists. Public Ad Campaign has organized non-virtual ad removal, too, resulting in arrests. This project was co-sponsored by The Heavy Projects. Via Gothamist.
