Some trends last far longer than you'd expect. Reality TV and Uggs, for instance. In the marketing world, I'd put the upload-your-photo campaign in this category. How many times do brands expect people to get a kick out of this? Yet they still keep coming, all hoping to be the next "Elf Yourself." The latest is from Kellogg, which is glomming the Cheez-It brand onto Paramount's upcoming Star Trek release with, yes, "Trek Yourself." You upload your photo, then have your Spock avatar (or another crew member) spout pre-set lines, like a plug for "big cheese."
