'Toy Story 3' bear gets fake '80s commercial

Pixar-lots-o-huggin-bear

Pixar has made the jarringly accurate fake commercial below, purportedly from 1983, for Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear, one of the toys that appears in the upcoming Toy Story 3. The attention to detail is great—the jingle is spot-on, and the fake VCR tracking lines are a nice touch—but overall the ad is a little unsettling. Maybe it's because items dating from the year I was born are now "retro." Or maybe it's the bear's big dead eyes, always staring. Or maybe it's because the name "Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear" makes me think of a big hairy dude in leather underpants. Whatever it is, I think the attic was the right choice for this toy.
