Do not laugh at these very serious animals

Lion_1Babe, Snow Dogs, Dr. Doolittle—it’s hard to think of a popular talking-animal movie that isn’t a comedy. (The same is true of talking-animal commercials.) But have a gander at the trailer for Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Here, we’ve got an epic movie, with all sorts of creatures giving impassioned speeches with earnest, anxious looks on their animal faces. Will people buy this stuff, or will they have to stifle chuckles at inappropriate moments when this movie opens at Christmastime? We’ll have to wait and see. (Thanks to Movie Marketing Madness for the link.) UPDATE: Beyond Madison Avenue has an interesting post about the marketing of this movie. It says Paul Lauer’s Motive Marketing will implement a faith-based marketing intiative for the film, much as it did for The Passion of the Christ. The campaign will reportedly reach out to churches and have pastors incorporate the Christian themes of Narnia into their teachings.
