Is country music all we have for the troops?

ConleeOn Veterans Day last Friday, it may have come as no surprise that Fox News was running a full-length video for a John Conlee country-music song called “They Also Serve,” a tribute to military families. But why is it always country music that’s called on to support the military? No matter how strongly some people oppose the war in Iraq, most Americans support the troops. So, where’s the musical diversity? Where’s the pro-America hip-hop song? Metal bands keep writing the same tune about how unfair everyday life is and how hard it is to quit heroin. Why do all the songs on MTV’s TRL have to be about things like droppin’ it steady and who stole whose boyfriend?
