Avert your eyes from those Starbucks cups
Starbucks can’t catch a break with its “The Way I See It” quotes-on-cups initiative. We first wrote about this topic back in January—it seemed funny that Starbucks was including a disclaimer (“This is the author’s opinion, not necessarily that of Starbucks”) on cups with even the warmest and fuzziest quotes. But we guess they knew what they were doing. In July, a “national Christian women’s organization” got all uppity about a quote from Armistead Maupin about being gay. Now, USA Today predicts a backlash over an upcoming quote that is reputed to be overtly religious. It’s from Rev. Rick Warren, the Christian author, and though we don’t know exactly what the quote is yet, we agree that it will stir the masses into a frenzy. Maybe it’s all that caffeine.
