WTVC Responds to Covid Outbreak, Outlines Next Steps

Chattanooga ABC affiliate WTVC has issued a statement about the decision to cancel its Monday morning newscast because of Covid.

This morning we reported that the station sent out a tweet alerting viewers of what it called a “widespread” Covid outbreak yesterday.

“Over the weekend, several of our employees reported positive COVID tests, resulting in a staff shortage for this morning’s broadcast of Good Morning Chattanooga,” the station said in a statement yesterday, which was obtained by TVSpy. “The health and well-being of our employees is a priority, and we decided to cancel the morning broadcast. In its place, we aired The National Desk to ensure audiences still had access to their morning news.”

The station went on to say “As our employees focus on their recovery, we have altered schedules and tapped into sister stations to assist with staffing over the coming days. We were able to move forward with our 12 PM newscast and anticipate no further disruptions to our schedule.

WTVC also said the station is “regularly sanitized” and has undergone “additional CDC-approved cleaning and has temporarily reinstated its mask mandate for all employees and visitors.”
