NBC News Washington bureau chief and “Meet the Press” moderator Tim Russert died Friday afternoon in his office. He was 58.

Russert, one of the biggest names in TV journalism, was widely considered the most influential Washington journalist of his time. He was also an award-winning journalist and best-selling author.

“This news division will not be the same without his strong, clear voice,” former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw said Friday afternoon in a special report announcing the death.
