LIN TV announced Monday (Oct. 27) it will test an interactive TV technology that allows viewers to link what they see on TV to the Internet. Beginning this November, WTNH-TV and WCTX-TV, LIN’s ABC and MyNetworkTV affiliates serving the Hartford-New Haven, Conn. market will participate in Backchannelmedia’s TV-to-Internet click through market trial.
A select group of viewers and advertisers will particpate in the pilot, which allows viewers to use their remote control to “bookmark” content for forwarding to a personal Web site that can be accessed later. Backchannelmedia also collects the viewer data, providing valuable information to broadcasters and addvertisers.
“We are interested in evaluating interactive television applications for our channels. Interactive TV creates unique opportunities for our new media business,” said Robb Richter, senior vp of new media for LIN TV. “We look forward to participating in the market trial and strategically evaluating Backchannelmedia’s cutting-edge technology.”
In addition to LIN TV, other stations have been testing Backchannelmedia’s interactive TV technology, including Hearst-Argyle Television’s WMUR-TV, the company’s ABC affiliate in Manchester and WCVB-TV, the ABC affiliate in Boston.
