John Deushane, the former chief operating officer for Granite Broadcasting Corp., was named president and general manager of WXIA and WATL, Gannett’s NBC and MyNetwork TV affiliates in Atlanta.

He replaces Bob Walker, who recently took a position with The Weather Channel Companies as evp of marketing and cross platform development.

“John is an experienced and strategic media leader who combines vision with execution. He understands and loves the local media business, and as a long-time resident of Atlanta, he’s going to hit the ground running,” said Dave Lougee, president of Gannett Broadcasting.

A veteran TV exec, Deushane served as svp of Granite before rising to COO in 2002.
