Perhaps hoping to end its TV season with as little fanfare as possible—a season which at least ratings-wise has been anything but stellar—ABC announced its finale dates for the 2010-11 season.
For much of the season, and certainly since the premiere of Fox’s American Idol at midseason, the Disney-owned network has ranked either third or fourth in viewers 18-49.
For the week ending Sunday, March 20, ABC averaged a 1.9 in the key demo, both behind Fox (3.2) and CBS (2.0). NBC scored a 1.5 in 18-49 viewers, tying for fourth with Univision. The CW drew a 0.4 in the demo for fifth place.
Among the more notable finale broadcasts is a two-hour season ender of Desperate Housewives and a one-hour finale of the Courtney Cox comedy Cougar Town. As in previous years, Dancing With the Stars is scheduled to end a day before the end of May sweeps, a scheduling strategy that should give the network a much-needed bump for the crucial ratings period.
