Clear Channel officially launched erockster Tuesday (April 29), a new online music portal and social networking site. Produced and inspired by Eric Szmanda (who plays Greg Sanders on CBS’ CSI) and his business partner, Tyler Malin, erockster targets 13 to 34 year-olds with a diverse collection of on-air, online and on-demand music by signed and unsigned artists.
The site was introduced over the weekend at the Coachella music festival via independently-owned KAJR-FM in Indio-Palm Springs, Calif. featuring more than 1,000 songs over the three-day event with no repeats and no commercials. Disguising his voice, Szmanda served as host, conducting artist and fan interviews.
Beginning May 2, erockster will also stream from Clear Channel station Web sites, KYSR-FM in Los Angeles, WWDC-FM in Washington, D.C. and WRFF-FM in Philadelphia. Plans also include erockster broadcast as an HD2 side channel and a two-hour syndicated show for FM stations.
erockster’s music collection will reach 5,000 songs over the next month, adding 1,000 songs per week. “Our main focus will be on quality and we’re going to give a lot of bands that don’t have a chance to be heard on the radio that opportunity,” Szmanda said. “We want to be be playing everything from indie rock to hip-hop to classic rock to soul to dance rock.”
