Live Well Network, ABC Owned Television Station Group’s digital channel of home, health and lifestyle programming, signed its first non-ABC-owned affiliates. Beginning Nov. 8, five ABC affiliates owned by Belo will clear the network, including WFAA in Dallas-Fort Worth, KMOV-TV in St. Louis, WWL-TV in New Orleans, WVEC-TV in Hampton-Norfolk, Va. and WCNC-TV in Charlotte.
Launched 18 months ago, LWN has been carried as a multicast channel in the 10 markets where ABC owns stations. The ABC-owned stations produce most of the programming on the network.
With the new season, ABC will be adding six new half-hour series to the 12 returning to the schedule this season. The network also has a redesigned Web site and will soon introduce a full-network mobile. In October, Peggy Allen, a programming veteran from Lifetime and WCVB-TV in Boston, will join LWN in the position of vp of programming.
The new shows are Custom Fit, produced by KABC-TV in Los Angeles; Good Cookin’ with Bruce Aidell, produced by KGO-TV in San Francisco; Here’s How, Right Now, produced by WLS-TV in Chicago; Laurie McKenzie’s Traveler, produced by Associated Television International; OTRC: On the Red Carpet, produced by KABC-TV; and Treasure Hunters Roadshow, produced by Entertainment Concepts International.
Some of the sponsors that have tapped into the network include General Motors, Cadillac, Toyota, Verizon, AT&T, General Mills, Smart Balance, Coupon Cabin, Lumber Liquidators, among others.
The ABC-owned station group is in talks with other stations about carrying the network.
