Twitter has acquired SnappyTV, the “cloud-based, live video platform that makes TV and live web streams social, mobile and viral.”
Twitter already had a working relationship with SnappyTV, whose platform has been used to inject video content directly into tweets from brands such as the NBA, NFL and MTV, so the buyout makes perfect sense.
One of the best ways to follow events as they unfold is through real-time videos on Twitter. As we continue to invest in video, it’s important for us to provide tools that make it easy for TV broadcasters, businesses, and event producers to share high-quality videos. To that end, we’ve agreed to acquire SnappyTV.
SnappyTV’s platform for live clipping, editing, and distribution is already widely used by brands and our media partners to share video clips on Twitter, both organically and via Twitter Amplify.
With Twitter we will continue our commitment to maintaining an open platform for social broadcasting of live events, across a variety of digital platforms. Joining Twitter will allow us to provide an even better product and bring the platform to more content owners and event organizers throughout the world. We will be able to further our goal of empowering people to share the world’s best moments.
Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
