As much as I like the iPhone 4 (despite its continued problems with the proximity sensor) and the iPad, the whole iOS tethering story is a terrible one so far. AT&T took what seemed like forever to actually allow tethering another device to the iPhone. And, when it did, the one device that could not tether to it was the iPad. Then AT&T dropped the monthly maximum 3G data limit from 5GB to 2GB. So, how interested am I in the speculation that tethering might be coming to the iPad 3G? (based on iOS 4.2 beta 2 as seen on an iPad 3G in Europe)?
Honestly, not much. The only group that could benefit from tethering another device to the iPad’s 3G service are those who are grandfathered in to the truly unlimited 3G that was offered at the time of the iPad 3G’s launch and then pulled soon after.
