Self-publishing platform Smashwords has introduced a new author marketing tool called Smashwords Interviews. The idea is to help readers learn more about the unknown authors that publish through the site, and give authors a place to talk about their inspiration for their work.
The tool lets authors interview themselves through a guided format. The tool prompts authors to answer a series of questions about themselves and their work. they can even create their own custom questions. Once they have edited the copy, they can hit publish. The interviews will be published on the Smashwords site, and readers can access them on author profile pages, book pages, as well as the Smashwords home page. Here is more about the new feature from the Smashwords blog:
The idea for this feature came to me last year when we were running a series of author interviews here on the Smashwords blog. Many more authors wanted to be interviewed than we could accommodate. I thought to myself, “wouldn’t it be cool if we could interview every Smashwords author?” And then the solution became apparent: a self-serve system for publishing author interviews. Smashwords Interviews is the result. Kudos to Case Talbot, the newest member of our software development team. She took my ideas and realized them better than I imagined.
