Facebook today announced new ways for developers to target their mobile app install ads, including Wi-Fi connection and what version of an operating system users are on.
These changes give developers more control over who they reach and when, allowing them to ensure they’re advertising their app to people who are most likely to download it. It also helps them tailor their ad message, for example, making sure to promote the version of their app that will work best on the mobile operating system version they’re using.
Facebook also today announced that mobile app install ads can now be created through the self-serve ad tool. Previously, developers could create these ads through a separate section of the developer dashboard, through Power Editor or by working with an Ads API vendor. Now, they can start mobile install campaigns from the same tool they might be familiar with from advertising their page or canvas application.
Facebook plans to hold a live Q&A with the product team on April 17 to answer developers’ questions about mobile app install ads.
