Facebook compiled the top applications of this election cycle in one section of the app center. The Election 2012 area currently includes:
- Obama 2012: This was the first campaign app to take advantage of Facebook’s open graph. Obama 2012 launched during the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., and it features 560,000 users.
- Campaign Story: This election-themed game allows users to choose their own political affiliations and devise entire campaigns from scratch. The Facebook app now has some 20,000 users.
- Stand with Mitt : The Romney campaign’s app allows its 3,000 users to display badges on their Facebook timelines and recruit friends to “Stand with Mitt.” The campaign’s Commit to Mitt app, launched last week, is also designed to get out the vote for Mitt Romney.
- Social Victory Center: This app from the Republican National Committee is designed to get voters to the polls for all GOP candidates Tuesday.
- Votocracy: Votocracy enables voters, candidates, parties, political-action committees, and influencers to build genuine engagement.
- Romney Store App: Browse the official Romney-Ryan store, add items to your cart, and give your friends digital gifts on Facebook.
- Vote with Friends: Facebook users can look up your friends’ real voting history and make them “promise” to vote on Election Day.
Among the trends this election year was the use of Facebook’s open graph technology to mobilize supporters on Election Day and encourage their friends to do the same. Pew Research Center found that peer-to-peer contact influences voters.
