Amazon has introduced a new model of its Kindle Paperwhite eReader. The new devices has a higher contrast screen, a new light, a faster processor, and updated touch technology than previous models. According to Amazon, the new eReader is 25% faster than previous models thanks to a new processor and the screen’s touch technology is 19% tighter.
The device also comes integrated with Goodreads, the popular social networking site for readers that Amazon acquired earlier this year. The new device also has bonus parental control features, so not only can parents select what their kids can read, it also allows them to reward their kids with badges and check out reading progress reports. Another new feature is a vocabulary builder that complies a list of words that a reader looks up that they can quickly reference. There is also a new word look up feature that goes beyond just dictionary definitions of words, but adds context by also pulling up the word or character’s Wikipedia page.
The new Kindle Paperwhite is $119. The Kindle Paperwhite Wi-Fi + 3G is $189. The item is available for preorder and ships September 30.
