If you ever found yourself listening to Snoop
Dogg Lion‘s 2004 megahit “Drop it Like it’s Hot,” and thought, “Hmm…I wonder what ‘it’ is”, you need wonder no more –“it” is officially a Hot Pocket.
Snoop teamed up with comedian/rappers DeStorm Power and Andy Milonakis to re-work his 2004 club jam for Nestle, Hot Pockets‘ parent company. As you can hear in the video below, the collaborators trade humorous rhymes about how fantastic the much-lambasted frozen foodstuffs truly are, especially when “your munchies get an attitude.” Duly noted!
All cries of “sell out!” aside (yeah right), the fact that Nestle trusted an eight-year-old Snoop song to spur a much-needed sales boost says something about the rapper’s staying power. Two decades, multiple style and sound changes, and one name reinvention after he blessed us with “Doggystyle” in ’93, he’s still relevant enough to warrant a major ad contract (he also appears in current spots for FIFA 13). Hot Pockets and Snoop may just be a perfect match — comedians may roast them, their packages may change and evolve, but something about them just never changes, and whatever that something is, people still go for it.
So next time you’re in a rush and starving, and decide to heat up a Hot Pocket, you’ll have an appropriate song to listen to while you wait for the microwave to beep so you can grab your “lunch” and go. Just don’t drop it…’cause it’s, you know, hot.
