You might not believe it, but Rob Ford has both a PR team and a damage control strategy, as revealed by this morning’s less-than-revealing interview with Matt Lauer (who sometimes plays a journalist on TV).
This case study might be more relevant to the field of psychology than media relations. While Ford admits to the whole crack-smoking thing, he seems determined to downplay it by focusing on more important issues like…his weight. Don’t worry, he’s been “training every day.”
He then tries to convince Lauer that drugs don’t affect his ability to do his job, saying:
“Come back in six months. If you don’t see a difference, I’ll eat my words.”
Way to undermine your daily training regimen. Do words have a higher calorie count if they’re not true?
At the very least, we may have a winner for Ford’s re-election campaign tagline:
“No terrorist attacks occurred while I was bingeing.”
