The new face of political communications.
Senator Ted Cruz officially kicked off the 2016 campaign season just after midnight this morning with a tweet:

Compare that announcement to this one, launched by then-Senator Hillary Clinton in January 2007 via her official website (and, we assume, a few well-placed calls to top journalists):
Bit of a blast from the past, no?
Around the same time in ’07, a certain long-shot candidate announced his own campaign by scheduling a real-life event complete with a 20-plus minute speech:
To find an even longer speech announcing a White House run, we have to go all the way back to 1991…
In a sign of the changing times, some wondered whether Cruz had created a campaign website at all…
