Syfy has tapped former Warner Bros. Television development executive Andrew Plotkin to serve as its senior vp of original programming.

Plotkin replaces Tony Optican, who left the network in May to steer FremantleMedia North America’s scripted programming efforts.

Among the series Plotkin has developed are CBS’ Without a Trace and Cold Case, FX’ Nip/Tuck and the CW’s Smallville. Most recently, Plotkin served as an executive producer for Chinese broadcaster CCTV.

Based in Los Angeles, he’ll report to Mark Stern, executive vp, original programming and co-head of original content at Universal Cable Productions.
