For NBC Universal’s Syfy network, monsters mean money. A day after it renewed its special effects contest show Face Off, the cable network ordered a second season of scripted series Being Human, about a vampire, ghost and werewolf trying to lead ordinary lives.

Since its Jan. 17 premiere, Being Human has averaged 1.8 million viewers and ranks as the cable net’s most female-skewing scripted series ever.

The show is based on the British series of the same name.
