After two historically low-rated episodes, NBC has canceled its new drama series Do No Harm.
A gloss on the Jekyll-and-Hyde psychodrama, Do No Harm starred Steven Pasquale as a surgeon at war with his darker nature.
After premiering Jan. 31 as the lowest-rated in-season broadcast scripted series in history—the opener drew just 3.12 million viewers and posted a 0.9 in the 18-49 demo—Do No Harm last night fell 22 percent to a 0.7 rating.
NBC will fill the ragged hole left in its Thursday 10 p.m. time slot with encore broadcasts of Law & Order: SVU.
Thus far in the uninspired 2012-13 broadcast campaign, nine freshman series have been canceled. One-third of these failed undertakings were medical dramas (DNH, Fox’s The Mob Doctor and the CW’s Emily Owens, M.D.).
On the whole, it has been a rough week for NBC, which saw its Broadway musical drama Smash return to a 1.2 in the dollar demo. Moreover, two other mid-season rookies, Deception and 1600 Penn, continue to deliver perilously poor ratings.
