What’s the first information you consume in the morning?
Sunlight, maybe, or my daughter kicking me in the head. Aside from that, I’ll get on my phone and go on Twitter.

Who do you follow on Twitter?
There’s so many good people on Twitter. As far as the people who most consistently make me laugh … Billy Eichner is so funny on there. George Wallace is really great. And Gary Janetti, Megan Amram, Rob Delaney.

Do you ever have to live-tweet New Girl episodes?
Yeah, we do that quite a bit. I joined Twitter because Fox was like, “This is something you have to do,” and then actually had a lot of fun with it. When I joined, the show had not aired yet, and I had like no followers, but I had a few comedian friends on there and we would just bounce around jokes all day. And then the show aired and this flood of followers came in, and I realized, “Oh, we’re airing right after Glee, there are now young people who are following me,” and there are certain jokes that I was like … meh, I gotta pull this back a little.

You guest-edited Goop a couple of years ago. How did that happen?
Gwyneth [Paltrow] had tweeted about the show during our first season, and then we got in contact with her and said I was a fan of her site. She was so supportive and great and was really hands-on. I actually guest-edited twice.

I feel like writing for Goop means you’re officially super fancy.
Yeah, one would think! [Laughs] I don’t know that that transition really happened to me yet.

What apps do you use?
I’ve been watching a lot of Louie lately, so I like the FX app. I like the learning apps for my daughter. I’m like, “Listen, if you’re going to beg for my phone or iPad, at least spend that time learning to read.”

What other TV shows do you watch?
I love True Detective so much, I can’t even tell you. I watched every episode multiple times. I’ve never done this in my life, but I actually started Googling things and looking up theories and reading about the intricacies of the show. Now, I’m fired up about The Leftovers. Comedy-wise, Tony Hale on Veep is the funniest thing on TV. I think Silicon Valley probably has the best ensemble on TV. HBO does a good job [laughs].

What’s on your reading list?
I just finished David and Goliath, that Malcolm Gladwell book. I love all his books, but that one was a real thinker. There’s nobody who writes like him.

When you were shooting They Came Together, how did you spend your downtime on set?
It was really cool because even though it has [Paul] Rudd and [Amy] Poehler and some big names in it, it was shot independently, so there weren’t really any trailers, and every time that I was not physically working, we were just hanging out. We shot the movie after the first season of New Girl, so everything was so new to me. It was like going to comedy school with the best people.
