Getting a head start on morning news, WTVT, Fox Television's owned-and-operated station in Tampa is adding a half-hour to its morning news program. Beginning Monday (April 27), Good Day Tampa Bay will begin at 4:30 a.m., making WTVT the only station to offer a locally produced program during the time period.
The additional half-hour, featuring breaking news, the full SkyTower Omni weather forecast and traffic reports, is intended to build on the station's ratings success in mornings. In March, Good Day Tampa Bay was No. 1 among Adults 25-54 both at 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., beating the network news programs.
"As the market's morning news leader, this expansion is a natural next step for our station. This additional half-hour allows us to better serve our viewers by providing them the information they need to start their day, no matter how early it begins," said Bill Schneider, vp and general manager for WTVT.
