Former ABC president Mark Mandala died Saturday July 11 in Dorset, Vt., while playing a round of golf.  He was 72.

A 32-year ABC veteran, Mandala rose to the post of president of the network in 1985. Capital Cities/ABC would eliminate the position upon Mandala’s retirement in May 1995.

Mandala joined ABC in 1962, and over the course of his career, he assumed various roles in sales and management. In 1983, he was elevated to president of ABC’s owned-and-operated TV stations division.

A reception for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, July 14, from 6-8 p.m.
