CBS named Dan Harrison senior vp of strategic development, a newly created position to assist in the development of new business models for the company’s operations. Harrison starts Jan. 4 and will report to Martin Franks, executive vp of planning, policy and government affairs for CBS.

Harrison was most recently senior vp of emerging networks for NBC Universal Cable, where he oversaw cable channels Sleuth and Chiller; and managed Universal HD and NBCU’s high-definition digital network, NBC 2Go, CNBC 2Go and MSNBC 2Go.

In his new position, Harrison will work with CBS’ senior management to help shape the strategic direction of CBS as it pertains to new technology and emerging distribution channels.

“As CBS and its many businesses continue to produce industry-leading content, new opportunities to mine that content arise every day. Dan’s experience and energy will go a long way to help make sure we’re realizing maximum value for CBS’ content, old and new, as we seek to navigate future challenges and opportunities,” said Frank.
