Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 30 percent at this same point last year to approximately 36 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted. ---------- -Friday’s Winners:Nothing: NBC movie Secrets of the Mountain won the 8-10 p.m. block, but only a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49 is not worthy of accolades. -Friday’s Losers (excluding repeats):Smallville (CW), Dateline (NBC) ---------- -Ratings Breakdown:NBC ranked first on this typically lackluster Friday with its combination of original made-for movie Secrets of the Mountain (Viewers: 7.87 million; A18-49: 1.4/ 5 from 8-10 p.m.) and a 10 p.m. edition of Dateline (Viewers: #2, 5.40 million; A18-49: #3, 1.2/ 4). Secrets of the Mountain was the most-watched show of the evening, more proof of how far Friday has fallen. Here is the half-hour breakdown: Secrets of the Mountain (NBC)8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 7.35 million (#1), A18-49: 1.3/ 5 (#1)8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 7.65 million (#1), A18-49: 1.3/ 5 (#1)9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 8.25 million (#1), A18-49: 1.4/5 (#1t)9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 8.22 million (#1), A18-49: 1.5/ 5 (#1t) Friday, once again, was the home of not one single “winner.” CBS aired repeats of on-the-fence-dramas Ghost Whisperer (Viewers: #2, 4.43 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.0/ 4) and Medium (Viewers: #2, 4.76 million; A18-49: #4, 1.0/ 3) from 8-10 p.m., leading into week three of Miami Medical at 6.67 million viewers (#1) and a second-place 1.3/ 4 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. Although growth for Miami Medical out of the Medium encore of 1.91 million viewers and 30 percent in the demo is worth positively noting, the older skew is a definite negative. For the second consecutive week, ABC replaced regularly scheduled Wife Swap with a repeat of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution at 8 p.m., which averaged 3.00 million viewers (#4) and a 0.9/ 3 among adults 18-49 (#3t). That led into the regularly scheduled original installment of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution (Viewers: #3, 4.09 million; A18-49: #1t, 1.4/ 5 at 9 p.m.), followed by veteran 20/20 at 5.53 million viewers (#2) and a first-place 1.5/ 5 in the demo at 10 p.m. As for Wife Swap, my guess is ABC will be burning off the original episodes in the summer. Fox aired repeats of House (Viewers: #3, 3.04 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.0/ 4) and Kitchen Nightmares (Viewers: #4, 3.21 million; A18-49: #3, 1.3/ 4) from 8-10 p.m. And The CW closed the night with a below-average performance for already renewed Smallville (Viewers: #5, 1.84 million; A18-49: #5, 0.7/ 3) and a repeat of America’s Next Top Model (Viewers: 1.56 million; A18-49: #5, 0.6/ 2). Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 30 percent at this same point last year to approximately 36 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted. --------------- -Saturday’s Winners: Nothing -Saturday’s Losers (excluding repeats):CBS Strike Force Saturday Night Fights and the night overall. ---------- -Ratings Breakdown:Fox led this third Saturday in April care of its perennial combination of Cops (original and repeat: #1, avg. 4.72 million; A18-49: #1, avg. 1.2 rating/5 share from 8-9 p.m.) and America’s Most Wanted (Viewers: #2: 5.41 million; A18-49: #1, 1.5/ 5). But just over five million viewers with a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49, on average, for the night is nothing to boast about. NBC aired repeats of an abbreviated version of The Biggest Loser (Viewers: #4, 2.04 million; A18-49: #4, 0.5/ 2), Law & Order (Viewers: #1, 5.57 million; A18-49: #3, 1.1/ 4) and Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #1, 5.78 million; A18-49: #1, 1.4/ 4) from 8-11 p.m. And ABC populated the evening with repeat theatrical Shark Tale (Viewers: #3, 3.57 million; A18-49: #2, 1.1/ 4 from 8-10 p.m.) and a repeat of already renewed Castle at 4.26 million viewers (#1) and a 1.0/ 3 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 10 p.m. Over at CBS, a repeat of NCIS: Los Angeles (Viewers: #2, 3.58 million; A18-49: #3, 0.6/ 2 at 8 p.m.) led into the latest edition of ongoing sports special CBS Strike Force Saturday Night Fights, which had no punch at a mere 2.63 million viewers and a 1.0/ 3 among adults 18-49 from 9-11 p.m. Take a look at the half-hour breakdown: CBS Strike Force Saturday Night Fights 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 2.57 million (#4), A18-49: 0.8/ 3 (#4)9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 2.55 million (#4), A18-49: 1.0/ 3 (#4)10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 2.89 million (#3), A18-49: 1.2/ 4 (#2)10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 2.52 million (#3), A18-49: 1.0/ 3 (#2) At this point, CBS just needs to let this franchise go. Third overall was NBC followed by Fox, which was in repeats from 7:30-9:30 p.m. CBS opened with granddaddy 60 Minutes at a dominant 8.2 rating/15 share at 7 p.m., followed by the aforementioned The 45th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards at a 7.7/12 in the overnights from 8-11 p.m. Comparably, that dipped by six percent from the year-ago telecast on Sunday, April 5, 2009 (8.2/13), which translated into 14.78 million viewers and a 3.8/10 among adults 18-49 based on the live plus same day ratings. Theatrical Hitch at 9 p.m., meanwhile, perked right up to a 0.6/ 1 at 9 p.m. -Strong Young Female Results for The Vampire Diaries:Based on the live plus same day ratings for Thursday, April 15, The Vampire Diaries on The CW won the 8 p.m. hour in females 12-34 (2.5 rating/9 share) and female teens (2.3/ 9), with its best ratings among women 18-34 (2.6/ 9) and women 18-49 (2.1/ 6) since February. Anything, after all, would benefit out of dancing extravaganza, particularly with oddly appealing Kate Gosselin in the mix. -The Reality:Since I have not seen the pilot yet, I will reserve any creative judgment. But mirroring former time period occupant Samantha Who?, the challenge Romantically Challenged will face is when, and if, ABC decides to move it to another evening.
