YouTube Founders Make Delicious Acquisition

Yahoo sold bookmarking site Delicious for an undisclosed amount to Avos, a company owned by YouTube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen. For Chen and Hurley, this could mark a new beginning after selling YouTube to Google and getting out of the game in 2006. For Yahoo, it represents the end of an era as the company moves to trim the fat, selling off lackluster secondary products.

Delicious is a simple concept, allowing users to create common bookmarks by tagging and saving web pages in the cloud, rather than on a personal device. Yahoo acquired the service in 2005 for an estimated $15 million to $20 million, and by 2008 Delicious boasted 5 million users. But such strong numbers are now unlikely in a climate where other online organizational tools have come to the fore, such as Twitter and Facebook.
