LivingSocial today tapped Barry Judge as CMO, the same role he held at Best Buy for the last four years during his decade-plus tenure at the big box retailer. He left Best Buy in May, exiting the consumer-electronics brand along with other execs in the last year.
Judge will oversee advertising, marketing and brand management for LivingSocial, which laid off 400 employees two months ago and has been attempting to expand its business via an offline event space, dubbed 918 F Street, in Washington, D.C., and by ramping up its vacations product, Escapes. A source close to the company recently told Adweek that the events and travel products were "extremely popular" with the digital deals firm's audience.
How Judge's retail expertise will help guide LivingSocial remains to be seen. In a statement, LivingSocial CEO Tim O’Shaughnessy, said, “Barry helped one of the world’s largest retailers build a powerhouse online and mobile presence, and we’re confident he can help us extend our own leadership in the local commerce space."
