First Four Days of CBS' Live NCAA Online Tops ’08

CBS Sports' live online presentation of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament has already reached more Web viewers in its first four days of coverage than were reached during the entire tournament in 2008.

According to officials, the CBS-branded March Madness on Demand video player—which streamed 48 live games from Mar. 19 through Mar. 22—reached 5.6 million unique viewers, a surge of 60 percent versus the same time period last year. In addition the MMOD player, which is distributed on CBSSports.com and nearly 300 other sites across the Web, streamed 6.5 million total hours of content over the four day period, an increase of 71 percent compared to the same four days last year.

In fact, MMOD has already nearly a million more viewers than it did during the entire tournament delivered in 2008, when 4.7 million fans streamed at least part of the live game action. This year, CBS has significantly increased distribution for MMOD while also using newly-owned CBS properties like CNET and GameSpot as promotional platforms. In total, CBS Interactive properties now reach 15 million people a day, said officials.

According to CBS’ data, the most streamed game to date has been the Mar. 19 contest between Cal. St. Northridge and Memphis.
