Facebook Wants to Be Go-To Site for Media

In talks with Spotify and Netflix about adding music, video

Facebook is developing features that will allow users to share media—including music, TV shows, and news—on their profile pages. Sources within the company told the New York Times that the site is in discussions with several online music services, including Spotify, to create tabs or widgets on members’ profile pages that would display a stream of songs the user is currently listening to, and allow their friends to hear them as well. The sources said that Facebook is hoping to do the same with video and news.

Facebook wouldn’t confirm the reports, only saying, “We’re always looking for better ways to help people discover the most relevant content on Facebook but have nothing to announce.”
