Google executive-cum-political activist, Wael Ghonim, is leaving Google to launch a nongovernmental organization aimed at fighting poverty and bolstering education through technology. Ghonim is Google’s head of marketing for the Middle East and North Africa. He is also responsible for administering a wildly popular Facebook page that is in part credited with toppling ousted President Hosni Mubarak.
The camera shy activist was taken into police custody for almost two weeks in the early days of the protests in Egypt.
