Cover Girl Ad Gets Photoshopped Into a Strong NFL Protest Meme
#GoodellMustGo image goes viral
The National Football League's problems of the last week are well known. But now social media users—particularly on Twitter—are passing around a Photoshopped version of a Cover Girl ad that's quickly becoming a meme while protesting the NFL's attitude toward domestic abuse.
Since yesterday, the altered cosmetics promo has been regularly accompanied by the hashtag #GoodellMustGo. That message highlights activists' sentiment that Roger Goodell, pro football's commissioner, should resign after not suspending Baltimore Raven Ray Rice indefinitely once learning the player punched his then-fiancée-and-now-wife Janay Rice.
The NFL, at first, suspended Ray Rice for only two games before TMZ released a video from last spring of the violent incident.
