Condoms, Horse Heads, Handcuffs and 11 Other Things Amazon Will Now Deliver in an Hour

New Prime app promises weirdness without the wait

Amazon Prime Now is a standalone app offering one-hour deliveries.

Amazon's whole mission is to get people what they want as fast as possible, a pledge the retailer took to an extreme new level with today's debut of a one-hour delivery service.

Amazon Prime Now, a standalone app, currently only delivers to select parts of Manhattan, and it has a limited catalog ranging from groceries and office supplies to clothing and tools. So when you can't wait more than an hour for, say, coffee filters, a dust buster, a pair of socks or a hole puncher, Amazon will quickly get it all to you.

Amazon has to beat startups like Uber, Postmates, Instacart to the doorstep, and then there's Google's Shopping Express service that does same-day deliveries. So one-hour delivery was one of the only remaining competitive frontiers.

Prime members pay $99 a year, and the one-hour delivery—with an $8 fee added to orders—comes on top of access to streaming movies and music, free shipping and other perks. (Google charges $95 for a yearly Shopping Express membership.)

With Amazon doing its best imitation of Domino's Pizza with this one-hour guarantee, we thought we'd look at some of the products you'll never have to wait hours for again. The following items (some useful, some truly strange) were among those listed on Amazon's new app for now:
