Mark Ellis has been named to the new position of executive vp of sales for AOL’s Platform-A, the latest move initiated by recently installed Platform-A president Greg Coleman, who took over AOL’s sales operations in February.
A five-year AOL veteran, Ellis was most recently senior vp, vertical and product sales. As the former head of AOL’s Detroit office, Ellis is credited with improving AOL’ sales efforts in the autos category.
In his new role, said officials, he’ll look to jump start AOL’s sales efforts for its vast Platform-A ad network as well as the company’s burgeoning original content business, which was recently rebranded as MediaGlow. The New York-based Ellis will also look to bolster the Platform-A sales team in coming weeks.
Ellis’ promotion follows several changes to AOL’s sales organization initiated by Coleman over the past several weeks. Coleman appears to be moving AOL towards a more regional-based sales approach, as he eliminated the company’s “property” and “category” sales teams in late March and also pledged in a company-wide memo to have more “people on the street selling.”
“One of our key areas of focus at Platform-A is to build the best ad sales team in the business, and in his years with AOL and Platform-A, Mark has proved himself as best qualified to achieve that,” said Coleman in a statement.
