Murdoch confidant and Dow Jones CEO stands to lose big in scandal

Les Hinton, CEO of Dow Jones & Company and publisher of The Wall Street Journal, is Rupert Murdoch’s most loyal and long-standing lieutenant—and he may also be the next in line to take the fall in the company’s News of the World phone-hacking scandal. Hinton was executive chairman of News International, News Corp.’s British subsidiary, for more than a decade before Rebekah Wade Brooks ascended to the position in 2009—after she reported to Hinton for seven years as editor of both News of the World and the Sun.
