Interest in the celebrity telethon, "America: A Tribute To Heroes," which was broadcast last Friday and raised more than $150 million for the victims of the terror attacks and their families, spread to the Web as more than 1.2 million unique at-home visitors logged onto the official Web site over the course of three days, beginning Friday, September 21. According to Milpitas, Calif.-based Nielsen NetRatings, www.tributetoheroes.org was the 66th highest rated site on the top domains list for the week ending Sept. 23.

NetRatings reported that almost 35 percent of the site's audience--which was 40 percent male and 60 percent female--went to the donations page.

The heavy volume of users to the Tribute to Heroes site, along with the surge of traffic to sites such as Redcross.org and helping.org, indicate that many Americans turned to the Internet in the wake of the attacks as a tool to help facilitate their own efforts to offer aid and assistance.
